The year 2026 began on a strong and inspiring note for the Institute of Electronics Engineers of the Philippines – KSA Eastern Region Chapter (IECEP KSA-ERC) as it continued its commitment to professional growth through its Continuing Education Program.

Kicking off the year was an informative and timely webinar on Fire Detection and Alarm Systems (FDAS), a critical safety system essential to protecting lives and properties in residential, commercial, and industrial facilities.

The webinar was successfully conducted on January 30, 2026, through the initiative of Engr. Anthony Laid, former Governor and one of the prime movers of IECEP KSA-ERC—the first overseas chapter of IECEP. His continued dedication underscores the chapter’s mission of advancing technical competence among its members.
Despite the specialized nature of the topic, the session drew highly motivated participants from three different countries—the Philippines, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and Canada—demonstrating the chapter’s growing international reach and the strong interest of members committed to continuous learning.

The program formally opened with a welcome address from the newly elected Governor, Engr. Teofilo Bitoon, who emphasized the relevance of fire detection systems to everyday life and highlighted their vital role in ensuring safety and compliance with standards.
The technical discussion covered various FDAS configurations, emerging technologies, and current trends in fire detection systems. It also included an in-depth review of government fire codes and regulatory requirements within the Philippine context, providing valuable guidance to practicing engineers and aspiring professionals alike.

The webinar concluded by Engr. Arlie Villanueva, the current VP for Education, as a highly productive and interactive session, marked by active participation and insightful questions from attendees. The discussions reflected real-world concerns and deepened understanding of the technical and regulatory aspects governing the proper design and implementation of Fire Detection and Alarm Systems in the Philippines.
Overall, the event set a promising tone for IECEP KSA-ERC’s 2026 programs, reaffirming its commitment to knowledge sharing, professional excellence, and public safety.
