The Institute of Electronics Engineers of the Philippines – Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Eastern Region Chapter (IECEP KSA ERC) successfully conducted the technical webinar “Artificial Intelligence: Fundamentals and Applications” on March 27, 2026, delivered via Zoom.

The event was led by Chapter Governor Engr. Teofilo Bitoon Jr. and hosted by VG Internal Engr. Kelvin Cano, whose coordination ensured a smooth and engaging session.
The webinar featured Dr. Robert G. De Luna, PECE, as the resource speaker, presenting a comprehensive overview of Artificial Intelligence and its real world impact.

Numerous IECEP members and officers from various chapters—including KSA ERC, KSA WRC, KSA CRC, and PELS/Rizal—actively participated throughout the presentation. Their involvement demonstrated strong professional engagement and support for continuing technical education.

Dr. De Luna’s presentation highlighted the transformative role of AI across major sectors such as consumer services, healthcare, finance, retail, government, energy, transportation, and industrial automation.

The presentation emphasized how AI powers applications like smart assistants, enhanced diagnostics, fraud detection, predictive maintenance, and precision agriculture. Foundational examples—including Tesla’s self driving car, IBM’s Deep Blue, and early robotics—illustrated AI’s evolution.

The webinar also explained the Internet of Things (IoT), tracing its origins to Kevin Ashton in 1999 and early implementations like the 1982 Carnegie Mellon Coke machine. IoT’s integration with 5G technology was presented as a breakthrough enabling massive device connectivity, ultra low latency, and large scale automation.

The speaker further discussed the era of hyper connectivity, noting that the number of connected devices surpassed the global population as early as 2008, with projections reaching 50 billion devices by 2030. The presentation underscored the explosive growth of global data—“2.5 quintillion bytes created every day”—and emphasized that 90% of the world’s digital data was generated in the last two years, reinforcing the idea that “data is the new oil.”
The session concluded with an overview of data science, machine learning, and the essential skills required for AI related careers. The webinar delivered a comprehensive and forward‑looking exploration of Artificial Intelligence, emphasizing its transformative impact across industries, the rise of IoT and 5G, and the unprecedented growth of global data.
The event strengthened the technical competence of IECEP members and reinforced the chapter’s commitment to continuous professional development.

IECEP KSA ERC extends its appreciation to all Board of Trustees members, former governors, officers, and volunteers whose collective support made the webinar possible. Their continued commitment to professional development strengthens the organization’s mission of elevating the competence of electronics engineers worldwide.
