The celebration of the 127th Philippine Independence Day in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia was marked with renewed pride and cultural vibrancy through the continuation of the Kalayaan 2025 program. In a powerful display of unity and heritage, the event was organized in collaboration with various Filipino communities and organizations, prominently including the Institute of Electronics Engineers of the Philippines (IECEP) KSA - Eastern Region Chapter (ERC).
Among the many activities held, one of the highlights was the highly anticipated “Laro ng Lahi” — a spirited showcase of traditional Filipino games that captured the essence of the country’s rich cultural heritage.
Serving as the official government representative, the Migrant Workers Office (MWO) stood in full support of the event, recognizing the importance of promoting Filipino identity and unity abroad. MWO officials were present to witness the lively activities and commend the organizers for successfully commemorating the country's independence through cultural celebration.
The “Laro ng Lahi” featured a variety of iconic Filipino games, evoking nostalgia and joy among participants and spectators alike. The lineup included Basagang Palayok, Hilahang Lubid (Tug of War), Patintero, Kadangkadang, Sipa, Dama, Sungka, and Luksong Sako (Sack Race) — each game a reflection of the Philippines’ vibrant traditions and communal spirit.

IECEP KSA-ERC took the lead in organizing and facilitating the Luksong Sako event, with its dedicated members ensuring its success. Led the Luksong Sako event was Johnel Corpuz, Committee Head and supported by Kelvin Cano, Jhun Can, and Emerson Cayetano.’
IECEP members who have also take part in the various games were Joseph Sonsona, Joseph Cardona and Joey Espinosa.

Spearheading the event was Melvin Landicho, Chairman of “Laro ng Lahi,” supported by AFSCOM and fellow IECEP KSA-ERC members, and who have given a heartfelt message encouraging our fellow kababayans to continue embracing and promoting local heritage.
The event began with the formal introduction of all participants and volunteers, setting the tone for a day of fun, camaraderie, and patriotic celebration. Filipino families and community members from across the Eastern Region came together to cheer on the players, share in traditional Filipino food, and pass on these time-honored games to younger generations.
In this heartwarming and dynamic event, Kalayaan 2025 in Saudi Arabia not only commemorated the nation's independence but also reinforced the enduring connection of overseas Filipinos to their roots — proving once again that while far from home, the Filipino spirit remains strong and proudly alive.

Very successful program headed by PPO-SA and chaired by our very own IECEP-KSA-ERC Former Gov Melvin D. Landicho.
